
The Goal of the South Dakota Highlanders Pipe & Drum is to bring honor, dignity, and a unique Highland respect to those worthwhile and special occasions that require deference, appreciation and beneficial notice. Since its Founding on September 9th, 2009, Members of the South Dakota Highlanders Pipe & Drum, have been appointed to perform at the following events: 1.) The South Dakota Air National Guard "Return from Iraq" Ceremony 2.) The "Honor Flight" Airport Departure Ceremony for WWII Vets attended by South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds and South Dakota Senator John Thune 3.) The Elbe River Bridge WWII Veterans Commemoration attended by Dmitry Vetrov, Counselor for the Embassy of Russia to the United States 4.) The WWII Veterans "Honor Flight" Fund-Raiser Parade in Dell Rapids, South Dakota 5.) The Prairie Meadows "Honor Flight" Departure Ceremony for WWII Veterans attended by Marine Corps Sergeant Major Bradley Kasal (recipient of the Navy Cross for Heroic Actions) 6.) The "Tribute to American Veterans" Opening Ceremony at the Vietnam War Memorial Traveling Wall 7.) The Send Off Ceremony for the South Dakota "Honor Flight" Poker Run Fund-Raiser 8.) Featured Performance of the "America the Beautiful and National Anthem Medley" at the Opening Ceremonies of the annual Worthington, MN, parade paying tribute to WWII Vets and the "Honor Flight" Program. 9.) The WWII Veterans "Honor Flight" Awareness Parade in Worthington, Minnesota 10.) Featured Performance of "Fanfare for Bagpipes and Drums" at the Afternoon Reception for Guest of Honor, Earl Morse; Founder of the "Honor Flight" Programs in the US. 11.) "Piping In" the Head Table for the Royal Order of Scotland during the R.O.S. Annual Banquet on August 21, 2010. 12.) South Dakota Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, Public Opening Ceremony held in Pierre on October 7, 2010. 13.) "Salute to Veterans" March on Sunday, October 3rd, 2010, to pay tribute to US Veterans hospitalized at the VA Medical Center. 14.) Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce "Meet Santa Claus" Opening Ceremony, on December 4th, 2010, at Shriver's Square in Sioux Falls, SD. 15.) State of Iowa's Annual "Golden Dome" Employee Recognition Award Ceremony held in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 17th, 2010. 16.) Christmas Holiday Extravaganza at the Empire Mall on December 12th, 2010. 17.) The Minot Symphony Orchestra's Spring Concert on March 5th, 2011. The Conductor was Dr. Dennis Simons; Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music, London. 18.) The Massed Band Concert Performance with the Khartum Pipes & Drums of Winnipeg, Canada; (as well as four more St. Patricks' Day events throughout Sioux Falls) on Saturday, March 12, 2011. 19.) The Opening Ceremonies of the Roller Dollz on Saturday, May 14th, 2011, at the Sioux Falls Arena. 20.) May 30th, 2011, Memorial Day Outdoor Event Honoring US Veterans, Royal C. Johnson Memorial Veterans Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD. 21.) Summer Celebration Parade, June 4th, 2011, Sioux Center, Iowa. 22.) South Dakota National Guard Activation Ceremony, South Dakota State University Performing Arts Center, June 9th, 2011, Brookings, South Dakota. 23.)
