| The Aberdeen Fire & Rescue Pipe & Drum Corps held its first organizational practice on July 10, 2008. The first public performance was during the Gypsy Days Parade in Aberdeen, SD, on October 10, 2009. The temperature during the parade, 27 degrees F, did not inhibit the success of this initial performance. The second public performance (when the temperature was 45 degrees F with a light, misting rain) was during the public unveiling ceremony of the Fireman's Statue on October 15th, 2009. This ceremony commemorated the 100 year anniversary (1909-2009) of the Aberdeen Fire Department. The Aberdeen Fire & Rescue Pipe & Drum Corps has 10 marching members that are all current, or prior, full-time firefighters. The hand-made, custom kilts chosen for these initial performances were made of Nomex, the material used in a firefighter's protective bunker gear. |
