| Photo of the Essex Scottish crossing the bridge into Groningen, Holland, in April of 1945. Tom Coulson, a graduate of the Army School of Bagpipe Music in Edinburgh, Scotland, was a member of this Essex Scottish Regiment. In the photo he may be seen, second piper on the far left. A vignette of Tom Coulson (at right) was taken from the above photo. Tom Coulson was also the Convener and First Pipe Major of the MacKenzie Highlanders Pipes & Drums of Des Moines. Pipe Major Coulson was a piping student of the legendary Pipe Major William (Willie) Collie Ross, M.V.O, M.B.E. (1878-1958) Beginning in 1975, Pipe Major Coulson instructed members of the MacKenzie Highlanders Pipes & Drums of Des Moines in the art of Highland Piping and Scottish Regimental Parade Protocol. This traditional influence is displayed whenever the Mackenzie Highlanders perform in parades and patriotic observances. Join us! |
